A Unique Barn Find Before & After

A friend asked if I would be interested in looking at an old snowmobile his neighbor raced at West Yellowstone around the early 70's. Of course I perked up at the mention of an early race sled.

I made an appointment with the owner to take a look. After we cleared away 35 years of who knows what we finally got to the snowmobile, a 1969 Polaris Colt with a 372 JLO Engine owned by Ted McMillan of Cheney WA.

He said he parked it there in the shed just like it was when he finished racing. We talked about the good old days, and had a great time. I told him I would like to put it back into original condition.

He was excited and wanted to see it when I finished. We talked price and he said... to see it fixed up was good enough for him. The rest is history!

See it on display in the museum anytime. Here are the pictures, before, during, and after restoration.

Notice the unique decal on the hood, plus the megaphone, this could possibly be the first Super Mod Stud...what a great find!

The Arctic Kitty Kat

Well this little Arctic Kitty Kat was a wonderful find.

A 1972 original, unrestored Kitty Kat with an Arctic Kat cover.

The whole sweet ride in mint condition!

My son was installing some flat glass work onsite up in Ione, Washington when he noticed this beauty on a trailer, so he called me and asked me if I was interested in checking it out.
We made a trip out to see it but it was gone.

We inquired at the residence and the owner told us that he had been trying to sell but had no luck so he put it back in the garage. Mind you it has been sitting there 30 some years already. The old owner told my son David that he bought it for his son in Seattle and for the grandkids to ride. The family used it a few times and it's been in waiting for me all this time!

Of course, I bought it for a steal of a price!

A must see when you stop by and visit the Museum.

Today's Featured Picture

I thought some of you might enjoy my latest find.
I've driven by this used equipment yard many times
but never noticed this sno-travler.

A good friend of mine who keeps his ear to the ground found it.
He asked me how much of a finders fee he could collect.

What is your opinion?

Is $100.00 too much?

FEATURED PICTURE OF THE MONTH

HOW IT ALL STARTED

HISTORY OF THE MAKING OF THE MUSEUM
After several years of collecting and restoring old snowmobiles
I found myself running out of storage areas,
something had to happen.
We remodeled an existing warehouse for storage.
As things progressed friends
stopped by giving ideas on displaying the sleds,
soon the idea of a museum emerged.

We’ve had a great time getting it put together.
Even while working on it people would
stop by with several buddies,
sharing stories about their old snowmobiles.
One of the first models I purchased and restored is a
1963 Polaris Pusher on its own Polaris Industries Trailer
made for the sled.
Things just escalated from there.

I became interested in Race sleds in particular and have sleds
from 25 Manufacturers the oldest being a 1958 Pusher.
I have a Lachasen Pusher,
the model being one of a kind built in Canada.
A favorite is a 1968 Yamaha Prototype SL350,
the first snowmobile made by the Japanese.

The "N.W.Museum of Vintage Snowmobiles"
has 100 plus sleds
(Antique,Vintage and Classic),
from Pushers, Trail and Race sleds, restored and unrestored.

We’ve met many people across the country and
have come to realize
the broad interest these old snowmobiles have created.
Who knew there were so many manufacturers?
Other attractions at the museum include
a collection of memorabilia
including signs, posters, photos, clothing etc.

I have about filled up my space
BUT I have saved an area for guest sleds
to be featured at different times.
Things are still in progress but the Museum is
open by appointment and look forward to
showing it to anyone who has an interest.
